My good friend Traci Bautista has a wonderful new book out called Doodles Unleashed & she is currently on a blog tour with my little corner of the web being one of her stops! In Doodles Unleashed, I explore photo inspirations and creating digital merged layers using the iPhone as one of my mixed media tools. It’s amazing that in the palm of your hand you can create wonderful visual stories by layering and altering photos by the touch or a few buttons. Some of my favorite iPhone apps are Hipstamatic, Pixlromatic, Decim8, ArtStudio and PictureShow. Most of my photos are taken in Hipstamatic, then imported into Pixlromatic or Decim8 to alter them, then the altered photo is imported into the ArtStudio app with other photo layers where I manipulate them further by changing blending modes. Here’s a video I created a video to show the basics of using the ArtStudio app to digital merge layers.

Explore visual storytelling by creating your own digital merged layers. The best way to do this is to play with the apps and try different settings/filters/modes and then alter your photos even further by importing the altered photos into a different app and applying more filters, then save your favorite settings. Have fun experimenting!
